Dr. Michael Metzner was born in Nuremberg in 1972. He graduated in law from the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen. After his traineeship at the Nuremberg Oberlandesgericht (a Court of Appeal) and his second state examination in 1999, he received his Doctorate in Law in 2007 with a dissertation on copyright law on the Internet. From 2010, Dr. Michael Metzner has also been a specialist lawyer for copyright and media law.
From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Metzner worked as an in-house lawyer for a listed stock corporation in the multimedia industry, which gave him a broad experience with corporate legal problems.
Dr. Metzner is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR). He was already fascinated by this field of law at university and later worked for a chamber of the Nuremberg-Fürth Regional Court specializing in copyright law and for a law firm specializing in this field. Besides, Dr. Metzner worked on a commentary on the Bavarian Media Act. Since 1997 he has also regularly participated in working sessions of the Institute for Copyright and Media Law.
Dr. Michael Metzner is a member of the Copyright Committee of the Deutscher Kulturrat ("German Cultural Council").
Dr. Metzner is also a member of the Erlangen Bar Association.
